Parvovirus in Dogs

Parvovirus or ‘parvo’ is a highly infectious viral disease that attacks tissues with rapidly dividing cells, causing death. The virus is highly contagious, can survive up to a year in the environment and favours hot, humid conditions. Young puppies and unvaccinated dogs are at greater risk of contracting this disease.

The best way to protect your puppy is through vaccination. If you have just acquired a new dog (of any age), or if your dog has never been vaccinated, speak to your local veterinarian to organise a health check and vaccination.

We recommend that puppies are restricted from public outdoor areas until she has completed the entire series of puppy vaccinations. You can have your puppy vaccinated at any of our veterinary hospitals here.
